Position Summary:

The Curriculum Specialist position is a full-time employment opportunity. Located in San Diego, CA and reporting to the Academic Program Manager. The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for editing, building, and maintaining all college Course Guides and Learning Management System (LMS) course shells in accordance with University templates and other compliance standards. Interfacing with publishers and the university bookstore representatives, the Curriculum Specialist I also tracks all textbook stock, adoptions, and updates for the college. The Curriculum Specialist I collaborates with Academic Affairs stakeholders, including the Executive Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Program Chairs, Full-Time Faculty, Associate Faculty, Academic Program Managers, Instructional Designers, Assessment Analysts, Academic Quality, Instructional Technology, and Ashford Operations to ensure University-wide consistency and innovation within the online classroom and throughout each college.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Edits for clarity, consistency, and formatting in compliance with Ashford University Style Guide.

  • Creates course shell in the LMS for developments, revisions, and updates according to universal design standards.

  • Independently assesses faculty feedback and at his/her discretion, determines the appropriate steps necessary for resolution.

  • Consults on the capabilities of the LMS and other technical platforms during course development process.

  • Supports the organizational relationship between faculty and national publishing house sales representatives.

  • Independently manages textbook adoptions and inventory.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Collaborates with Program Chairs(s) and Faculty to develop faculty forums.

  • Provides training and organizes opportunities for collaboration for Curriculum Coordinators across colleges.

  • Additional projects and duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three or more years of experience in education or other related professional setting.

  • Independent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Experience with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver) and/or Learning Management System administration.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in all communications.

  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and meet deadlines.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HTML

  • Degree or certification in educational technology, instructional design, or other related field.

  • Experience in editing/proofreading in a professional or academic setting.

    Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required
